Step Up Week Nine Day One

Today I finished all of my postcards. I have learned a lot about using photoshop these nine weeks and I’ve gotten a lot better. We also to took a couple surveys and a math a reading test. I am looking forward to coming back tomorrow.

Step-Up Week Eight Day Three

Today we went to the Mall of America. It was fun. We learned a lot about the history of the Mall of America and how they plan to expand it in the future. We got mystery prize cards and I won a free ride. We also got free coupon books. After the tour we got to walk around and see the shops. I am looking forward to coming back next week.

Step Up Week 8 Day 2

Today I worked on my postcard. This week’s theme is substance abuse prevention. According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse, addiction is defined as “a chronic, relapsing brain disease that is characterized by compulsive drug seeking and use, despite harmful consequences. It is considered a brain disease because drugs change the brain; they change its structure and how it works. These brain changes can be long lasting and can lead to many harmful, often self-destructive, behaviors.” In addition to working on my postcard, we also got to go to the park. It was nice to get out of the building for a while. I am looking forward to coming back tomorrow.

Step-Up Week 7 Day 1

Today we started making our postcards on cultural exercise. According to BALL website, cultural exercise is described as a “strategy is based on the Bicultural Healthy Living approach, which emphasizes on cultural pride and parent involvement as motivations for youth to be proud of themselves, and participate/exercise more through cultural exercise options.” I learned a lot making this postcard and I am looking forward to finishing it.

Step-Up Week 5 Day 3

Today I finished working on my Cultural Stories postcard. We also got to go the park when we went on our walk this morning. I had learned a lot about blending images making my postcard. Im looking forward to coming back next week and starting a new project.

Step-Up Week 5 Day 2

Today  we went on a field trip to a job/career fair in Maplewood. We learned about the manufacturing industry and the types of jobs available. The jobs they told us about payed high salaries and some didn’t even require previous experience. Most of the jobs only took 18 year olds or older so I can’t work at any but I still learned a lot. I did some activities like playing a game, taking a picture and hammering in nails. Overall it was a cool experience because I learned a lot about different career options.

Step-Up Week 5 Day One

Last week I went to professional development training. We learned about work safety and our rights as working minors. We also learned about financial literacy and set career goals. We completed a work book and watched a couple videos plus we got a certificate at the end. All in all it wasn’t too bad and I am happy we got school credit for going.

Step Up Week Four Day Three

Today I resumed working on my postcard. I’m not quite done with it yet but I hope I’ll be finished by Monday. I really enjoyed woking in this particular postcard because the topic was very broad so I had a lot of ideas. Im looking forward to coming back on Monday and finishing my post card.

Step Up Week 4 Day 1

Today I started working on my violence prevention postcard. I spent a lot of today researching about violence prevention and the damage abuse causes people. The hardest part about making post cards for me is that I can never find the exact photo I have in mind so I had to spend some time doing that today. Im looking forward to coming back tomorrow and working on my postcard.

Step Up Week 3 Day 3

Today I mostly worked on practicing the photoshop skills I have been learning for the past three weeks. The piece I created today doesn’t really have any theme but In tried to focus on blending several layers together and that was kinda hard. Since the whole thing is trial and error I learned a lot about using the different blending modes. I also figure out how to put a clipping mask on an image so you can put a image inside another one. I’m looking forward to coming back next week and starting on a new project.
