International Youth Day 2017

Today was a nice day. I met someone from another country and he was very cool and chill. I asked him questions and he replied the same way by asking me questions. After I asked him a question he said “how is here?”. I said “It is nice to be here with people that accept you the way you are and let you be you.”. I learned a lot of experience that were kinda like the same as me and  there

International Youth Day 2017

When I first came to the Unite state of American learning new culture was hard, because i didn’t know how to speak english. When I start school I was the only kid who don’t know any english it hard for me, when the teacher was asking me a question i don’t even know what she want, I just stand there but good thing is that i was surround by hmong kid who can speak in english and hmong. When halloween came kid were wearing scary custom which i though that the dead came back to life, that scared me so much when I was still a kid. The thing that i’m not very good with was school i didn’t get anything even the teacher help me so school was a real nightmares. But after learning for almost 2 year I start to understand english and school start to become easier for me and my life start to change.

International youth day 2017

On international youth day I was in North West MN, but I can tell a personal cultural story of my own. When I was younger my grandparents would have foreign exchange students stay at their house. It was really fun for me to get to know them and learn about their home and culture. My favorite exchange student was a German 17 year old named Arron. He was really friendly and he showed us how to make stroopwaffle cakes, polish sausage, sourkrout and much more. I think meeting different people is an important learning experience.

International Youth Day 2017

Today Is International Youth Day and I recently had an awesome cultural experience. A couple weeks ago, I was in Japan for two weeks. In Japan I saw many things and met many people. Japan’s culture is built on honor and respect and I really took it all in. The people In Japan are really really respectful to each other and to elders. It made me act more respectful lol. Japanese people hold on to there culture unlike other people (not passive aggressive). There is two sides to Japan, the historical part and the “Pop culture part”(modernized).  People in Japan also take influence from other countries, in-fact, Japanese people are really open to anything. Anyways, I’ve learned to be more respectful and open while I was in Japan…(Sounds Cliche)

International Youth Day 2017

Today is international youth day. I have a lot of experiences with different cultures because most of my friends are immigrants or children of immigrants. One of my friends, Ashina, is from in India. She is an amazing dancer. She preforms traditional Indian dances in front of huge audiences ( I have a terrible memory so I can’t remember the name of it) and makes it look effortless. She wear the most beautiful, elaborate outfits and jewelry. I She tried to teach me how to do it, but I just couldn’t. I learned the most cultures have aspect that take a long time to learn. It takes training and practice.

International Youth Day 2017

I have never been to a different country but I have met someone from one. I can’t remember her name , but she was a German exchange student in my French class. She was a Junior and school where she lived sounded a lot different from school in America. They never had pre-determined class schedules (for instance here in America, we have class from one time ((8:00)) to another ((3:00)) 5 days a week, but in Germany, they would sometimes have class from 12:00 to 6:00 and other days 8:00 to 3:00.) They also allow drinking at an earlier age, 16, to prevent a larger urge to drink when you’re older. I wish I got to speak to her more to learn more about life in Germany, as I’ve always been interested in taking a vacation there.

International Youth day 2017

Today was international youth day and I have a cultural experience every day living with someone who is from a different country. My mom was born and raised in Brazil. Everyday she teaches me new things about brazil and its culture every day, including the language which is Portuguese. I am not from another country but living with her feels like i’m in brazil when ever she talks about brazil and how she grew up. She has told me many times how different it was growing up in brazil than when she came to the states. every day I appreciate my mom and her culture because just knowing that you are close to someone with an awesome background is like you were actually there.

Step-Up Week 8 Day 2

Most days we have one goal, but today we had two. The first half of the day (before lunch) I sat in the production room with Diamond and suggested edits for her to make. Since I left early last week when they finished shooting the  film, I was glad to watch what they had done after I left. I personally think that the final product of the film was great. It was well shot, the lighting was surprisingly good, and it was really cute. After lunch came the second half of the day. For the second half we went back out in to the parks to gather interviews. The weather was nicer than yesterday so everyone seemed to be in a more pleasant mood. Overall I enjoyed today.

Week 8 Day 2

Today we finished editing  the video that we made last week and went to the park to interview more people. Photo team got 11 people…not bad.

Week 8 Day 1

Yesterday we started on a new postcard, with the theme of substance abuse. We had to find information on the different type of substance abuse, and at 10:30 or so, Williams turn off the wifi so we didn’t have wifi for the whole day.
